It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say the print, radio and TV media industries (amoung others) have been and continue to be in the process of change. Fuelling their evolution, or demise, is the ubiquitous Internet.

If you want fast access to the most current information, these days you probably turn to the internet first. At least you don’t have to wait for the newspaper to come out the following day, or a magazine to be published next week or month.

And so what will be the future of these industries?

Top of mind was the infamous challenge Ashton Kutcher made with CNN about who would be first to reach 1,000,000 followers. Yes, it garnered a lot of attention, and Twitter user base increased dramatically during the same period. But during all the media coverage it was getting at the time, the main premise of using Twitter at that time (“What are you doing?”) seemed trivial to me. The type of tweets being mentioned were mainly mundane everyday things people were doing, which was of no interest to me. And so I stayed clear of using it.

Until this year, when I came across an article that changed my opinion a complete 180 degrees. What if the reason for tweeting had nothing to with “what are you doing?”
